“How about 4-5 years in the past? I was selling vacuums door to door in some of
the worst neighborhoods in Chicago. It was one of the most grueling situations I
have ever experienced. 6 days a week, 10-14 hours a day driving and driving
only to give hour long demonstrations to people who had zero intention of buying
but REALLY wanted to get the living room rugs cleaned.
After I had my life threatened I decided it was time to seek other income

No idea how it happened, but I showed up at an interview with a mortgage brokersoon after I quit selling vacuums. I got lucky. The broker who hired me was a total ass and didn’t care about the fact I dressed like a hobo. He wanted “cannon
fodder” for his sales force.
My streak of luck came in the form of my ability to close the deal. For some
reason I found I had a knack for selling on the phone.
Money was being made, money was being spent. I was hammering the phone
and hammering the pavement close to 70 hours per week.
Zero time for family or friends.
NOT the life I wanted. It was work. Worse yet, it was HARD work.
Then the bottom started to fall out and all the money went away. In it’s place
was a cold, hard lump of desperation and panic.
After I lost my own brokerage due to some insane identity theft, I was left broke
and homeless. No. I’m not kidding. I was living in a 150 square foot office with
nothing more than a card table, a plastic chair and a blanket. No house. No
money. No nothing.
What I was doing there would have made even the most hard-core survivalist
cringe. I was working 7 days a week, 18 hours a day to turn around the massive
life melting a-bomb I had been dealt.
My friends wanted very little to do with me and my family simply shook their
heads when I told them my plan.
